Movie Review: Justice (2024) – A Polish Crime Drama That Deserves More Recognition
Yesterday, I watched Justice (2024), a Polish crime drama directed by Michał Gazda. It's a very good movie that I feel is quite underrated.
Plot Overview
The storyline is one of my personal favorites: an old, discharged police officer returns to solve a crime mystery in an attempt to regain his job. It’s a familiar setup, but the way the story unfolds keeps it fresh and gripping. The movie blends elements of crime-solving with deep emotions, and the performances from both the lead and supporting characters really shine.
Strong Characters and Performance
One of the standout characters is Tadeusz Gadacz, played excellently by the lead actor. He’s calm, collected, and always has the upper hand when it comes to getting leads—showing his passion for the job. The way he predicts events and solves the case is well thought out, and the tension builds as he tries to crack the mystery within a strict 15-day deadline.
The antagonist, Kacper Surmiak, is equally compelling. The director does a brilliant job of portraying the idea that "people are gods, but circumstances make them commit wrong deeds." The emotional conflict between Kacper and his sister is a highlight, and it adds another layer of depth to the story. Even as Kacper’s fate takes a tragic turn, the movie doesn’t lose its emotional grip on the audience.
Cinematography and Music
Visually, the film impresses with cool shades and a consistent aesthetic that adds to the mood of the narrative. Special mention to the background music composer—superb work on the BGM, which enhances the emotional scenes and adds tension when needed.
Themes and Messages
The reason behind Gadacz solving the case is clearly explained, and the movie leaves you with a lesson on the importance of learning from the mistakes made by both Kacper and Gadacz. It’s a story about redemption, consequences, and the impact of choices.
Aleksandra Janicka, playing a key supporting role, delivers a strong performance that complements the main characters and helps elevate the narrative.
Dialogue and Dubbing
One thing that stood out to me was the strength of the dialogue, especially for the main lead. The lines written for Tadeusz Gadacz are sharp and impactful, particularly in the intense scene when Kacper tries to kill him. The way the lines are delivered gives the scene a thug-like intensity, making it all the more gripping.
In my opinion, Justice should have been dubbed into multiple languages—it deserves wider recognition. The powerful dialogue and performances would resonate with a much larger audience if made available in more languages.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Justice (2024) is a solid crime drama with a mix of suspense, emotion, and powerful performances. It deserves more recognition and is definitely worth watching.
Rating: 3.5/5
