space man (2024) -- my experience

 ðŸŽ¥ Movie Review: Spaceman (2024)

⭐ Final Rating: 2.5/5
🎬 Directed by: Johan Renck

I just finished watching Spaceman and to be honest, it was okay — not great, not terrible. I expected a space adventure, but it turned out to be more emotional and thoughtful than exciting.

The story is about Jakub, an astronaut on a solo mission to study a strange space cloud near Jupiter, called the Chopra Cloud. While he's up there, he deals with loneliness and starts thinking deeply about his past and mistakes he made. The film jumps back and forth between his time in space and scenes from his life on Earth, which helped explain his character but also slowed the movie down at times.

Visually, the movie looks great. The space scenes, especially the colorful clouds, were really beautiful and reminded me of real telescope images. The special effects team did a great job. But sadly, the music didn’t have the same impact — especially in emotional or intense moments, where it could’ve made scenes feel more powerful.

One strange part of the movie is a talking spider-like creature named Hanus that appears to Jakub. At first, it felt weird and creepy, but later on, it makes more sense. Hanus isn’t real — it’s more like Jakub’s conscience, helping him face his feelings and regrets. Some of their conversations are meaningful, but the scenes with Hanus sometimes slowed things down too much.

What really let me down was how the movie started. The opening made it seem like we were in for a big space adventure — maybe exploring planets or surviving in deep space. But instead, most of the movie is quiet, emotional, and focuses on Jakub’s inner struggles. If you’re expecting thrilling action, this might not be for you.

That said, if you’re okay with a slow-paced, emotional story set in space — one that’s more about personal growth than exploration — you might enjoy it. But for me, it just didn’t leave a strong impression.

Final Thoughts: Looks great, has a few touching moments, but overall it’s too slow and not the space adventure I was hoping for.
